Who's Who??*
*The Omniversal Groove Machine is formed of a assortment of musicians, all of whom may not be available simultaneously. However, as word of this project has spread, so has the interest of a large number of muscians whose names you may recognize. This roster will be posted as the list continues to develop and the personnel for specific shows will be specified in the section related to that show. The Machine always welcomes opportunities to include local kindred-spirited musicians, wherever the venue.
 

Renard Poché- Guitars, Trombone, Percussion: A contemporary of some of New Orleans' funk greats, Renard Poché's contributions can be counted among the defining factors of funk in New Orleans. Best known for his electrifying guitar work, Poché is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist whose been known to move effortlessly from guitar to trombone to percussion without missing a beat. In addition to his live and studio guitar work with artists such as Dr. John, Zigaboo Modeliste (of the original Meters), Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint and N'Dea Davenport (Brand New Heavies), Poché's trombone work can be heard on recordings by Peter Gabriel, The Indigo Girls, Terrance Simeon and The Neville Brothers, among others. Poché's original compositions have found their way to places as diverse as BET's Movie of the Week and the TaeBo Workout Video. Poché has recently shared his talent in renoun trumpeter/composer Terrance Blanchard's musical score for the upcoming film, Dark Blue.

 

Dr. James "Jimbo" Walsh- Bass: Jimbo Walsh brings a rich and complex musical history to the group. While working on a Doctorate in Music Composition at Columbia University, he played in the New York post-punk, pre-grunge band, The Bureaucrats with pals Sherman Ewing and Widespread Panic's John "Jojo" Herman. Jimbo currently conducts the Naked Orchestra and plays with Michael Ray and Cosmic Krewe as well as other funk and improvisational jazz groups in New Orleans.

 

Kevin O'Day- Drums: Kevin O'Day doesn't have enough fingers to count the bands he plays with at present, let alone past projects. Anders Osborne, the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars, All That, Mutiny, the Naked Orchestra, and the Cosmic Krewe have all laid claim to O'Day and his drums at one time or another. His popularity among local musicians is not only for his impeccable beat keeping, but also for his utter confidence and bare-bones style.

Michael Ray- Trumpet: Michael Ray adds his cosmic influence to the Groove Machine with colors drawn from his work with Kool and the Gang and the late great Sun Ra and his Arkestra.
Glenn Hartman- Accordion, Keyboards: Glenn Hartman is a founding member of The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars, considered to be one of the finest modern klezmer bands playing today. He has also played and recorded with Anders Osborne, Monkey Ranch, The Royal Fingerbowl,High Plains Drifter, Ben Hunter and Crucial Roots, and Mike Ward and the Reward. Hartman and Wally Ingram have just completed a CD, "The World Accordion to Glenn Hartman and Wally Ingram" which is being pre-realised at this year's Jazz Fest.


Wally Ingram- Drums, Percussion: Wally Ingram has toured as drummer and percussionist for Jackson Browne, Sheryl Crow, Blues Traveler (recently opening for the Rolling Stones), and Tracy Chapman's Crossroads Tour, among many other performing credits. During the Horde Tour, Ingram coordinated and managed the workshop stage, playing with Taj Mahal and Col. Bruce Hampton, as well as Neil Young and Toad The Wet Sprocket. Additionally, Wally Ingram toured Japan with Art Garfunkel and most recently worked on a project for Miles Copeland's new label Arc 21, Pat Macdonald Sleeps With His Guitar.

Anthony Krizan-Guitar, Vocals: Former Spin-Doctor guitarist and songwriter Anthony Krizan brings real Experience to the Groove Machine. He performs regularly with Noel Redding (Jimi Hendrix) and has written songs recorded my many artists, among them, Lenny Kravitz (Stand By My Woman) and John Waite. Other collaborators include Nick Taylor (Duran Duran), Bernie Worell (Parliament), Levon Helm (The Band), and Stan Lynch (Tom Petty). Krizan's fluid slide-guitar sounds and nimble lead chops allow him to weave a blaze of colored sounds into the fabric of the band.

Tim Green- Tenor Saxophone: Avant-garde saxophone avatar Tim Green knows how to gently take audiences from where they now stand to new and unimagined places. His performances are never less than awe-inspiring. This acclaimed player has performed worldwide with such notables as Peter Gabriel, Cyril Neville, Phish, Clarence Gatemouth Brown, Michael Ray, the Radiators, Medeski Martin and Wood, and Anders Osborne. His work can be heard on recordings by Peter Gabriel, Bruce Hornsby, Buffy St. Marie, The Neville Brothers, The Indigo Girls, Fred Wesley with Maceo Parker, Cubanismo and numerous others.

Andrew McLean- Tabla, Sitar, Sarod: The New Orleans pioneer of Indian tabla drumming, Andrew McLean's melodic vocal-like percussion adds a mystical sense of unity to the music. As a student of Indian classical music under the guidance of Ustad Zakir Hussain, Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, McLean has established himself as the most qualified tabla player in the city of New Orleans. He has organized a number mind-blowing collaborative performances fusing the traditional sounds of India with those of the many styles represented in the music of his home town. Read more here:

Adam Klipple- Keyboards, Vocals: Adam Klipple, who has been described as "a standout pianist who has gone to school on McCoy Tyner and Cecil Taylor and earned his degree," also plays Hammond organ, sampler and a variety of vintage keyboards. He leads two of his own groups; his piano trio, the AK3, not only plays derangements of traditional standards, but also forays into Brazilian, Latin, funk and pop. Drive-By Leslie, his Hammond organ quartet, delivers riotous funk-jazz-dance music. Also a member of Defunkt, Klipple will deliver the vintage grease with his Fender Rhodes, Hammond Organ, and MiniMoog skills- and of course his Outer Space vocals will guarantee serious interplanetary booty-shaking...
