Chévere made its explosive debut in 1998 and continues to gain attention as one of New Orleans’ premier Latin Jazz groups. Composer, arranger and band leader David Ellington draws on a wealth of experience which includes stints with Walter “Wolfman” Washington and the Roadmasters, The Wild Magnolias, Michael Ray & Cosmic Krewe, and the Milonga Tango Band. Ellington’s diverse musical influences and passion for Afro-Cuban jazz have produced inspired compositions performed by a ensemble of some of New Orleans’ finest musicians. The group’s debut CD, “Baila Mi Ritmo” received strong reviews and made Times Picayune music critic Keith Spera’s list of the Top 20 Records of the Year 2000. This year marks Chévere’s third appearance at the New Orleans Jazz and heritage Festival.
