Sherman

Sherman Ewing hails from Minnesota, home of Paul Westerberg and the Replacements, and Husker Du, two heavy influences in his early years. In his teens at an all boys' boarding school in England, he began listening to Bob Dylan and was inspired to pick up a guitar and start writing about his personal experiences. Sherman returned to the US after graduation to attend Columbia University, where he earned a B.A. in Political Science and Theater Arts. Throughout the 90s, he began playing with local bands in New York.

In 1999 he started his own solo project, Sherman, and has had the good fortune to team up with producer Godfrey Diamond (Lou Reed, Aerosmith, Billy Squier). Both Sherman and Godfrey felt the magic of their collaboration and for the past couple of years they have continued to develop the project, which blends acoustic folk-rock and blues with classic rock and pop. In 2000, Sherman and Godfrey co-wrote the song Emotion, which they followed up with Hollywood, a song about a starved youth culture that is obsessed with fame and living the glossy high life.

Sherman has become a strong presence on the New York music scene, regularly playing such venues as CBGB's gallery, Arlene's Grocery, Acme Underground, and the Living Room, and has developed a faithful following. Most recently, Sherman was joined by his old band mate and friend John Jojo Herman (Widespread Panic) for a sold out show at the Wetlands. Sheman will be performing at the 2002 New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival on May 3rd with more New Orleans dates to be announced soon. Also in the planning stages is a summer tour of the South with Theryl "Houseman" DeClouet.

About the Band Members
Sherman's band is formed around a core of notable top-notch musicians with well known special guests appearing on each show.

Harold Brown, famed as one of the original members of the band War and co-writer of the bands many hits, holds down the beat.

Former Spin Doctor Anthony Krizan is known for his skillful execution of the role of lead guitarist not only with the Doctors but with Hendrix bassist, Noel Redding. Krizan has also co-written songs with Lenny Kravitz and John Waite.

Dr. James "Jimbo" Walsh brings a rich and complex musical history to the group. While working on a Doctorate in Music Composition at Columbia University, he played in the New York post-punk, pre-grunge band, The Bureaucrats with pals Sherman and Widespread Panic'sJohn "Jojo" Herman. Jimbo currently conducts the Naked Orchestra and plays with Michael Ray and Cosmic Krewe as well as other funk and improvisational jazz groups in New Orleans.

Michael Ray adds his cosmic influence to Sherman's ensemble with colors drawn from his work with Kool and the Gang and the late great Sun Ra and his Arkestra.
